Feeding Tips

This is a selection of tips sent in by parents and carers.  If you have any tips you would like to share, please email us.

Carbohydrates - For more flavoursome pasta or rice try adding it cooked to make chunky soup.

Encouraging chewing - To encourage chewing, dry food is better (not lumps and liquids together). Food needs to be at different temperatures to increase/stimulate the feedback from the mouth.

Moveable treats - Small boxes of Sun-Maid raisins are very easy to carry around in your handbag or in the car.  Always carry some cutlery in your handbag or in the car then you can take Ambrosia custards and rice puddings with you wherever you go.

Swallowing - Tinned apricots are full of fibre, calories and vitamins. When liquidised they are just the right consistency for people with Rett syndrome who have swallowing problems and they are also great for constipation.

Won't eat vegetables? - Try pushing peas and sweetcorn into Penne pasta tubes. Or mixing diced and small vegetables in with mashed potatoes.
