CDKL5 Gene

There is a condition caused by a mutation in a gene called CDKL5 which leads to early onset of seizures and some similar characteristics to Rett syndrome.

Individuals with mistakes in CDKL5 often have seizures as babies and go on to develop features similar to Rett syndrome. Researchers are looking at how MECP2 and CDKL5 work, and to identify other genes which cause Rett syndrome.

A  Yahoo support group for parents has been set up by Cheryl Smith.  For more details contact the group moderator.
